The Not4Sale campaign kicked off in 2012 in response to the Newman Government’s betrayal of their commitment to not sell state owned electricity assets. The campaign ramped up across the state educating communities about the perils of privatisation. The campaign was heavily involved in the Redcliffe and Stafford by elections which delivered massive 17-19% swings against the LNP. We took Nicholls to task for his Strongchoices asset leasing proposals that would have seen electricity generators among other assets sold to overseas interests. The 2015 election was a massive victory for common sense and a firm rejection of the LNP’s privatisation agenda. The LNP were at it again in 2017, aided and abetted by the hapless One Nation who would do anything and sell anything to try and get elected. Again common sense prevailed. But at a Federal level the LNP are ramping up their pressure through their so-called “Big Stick Divestment Legislation” which if passed will give the Federal Government the ability to force asset sales on State entities despite opposition. They are also pushing their so – called asset recycling fund, which provides extra infrastructure dollars to states that sell public assets.
The battle to save our assets continues…
Asset Sales = Higher Prices, Inferior Service, Fewer Jobs and Apprenticeships, Private Profit and Loss of Control.
